Very true! Hindi maybe our national language in law books but its English that is acceped everywhere today. We seldomly interact with each other in Hindi and from initial stage want our our kids learn the same as if it(English) is our mother tongue.

English is accepted in offical dialogs so that everyone can undertand it. If I write this in Tamil or Bengali, most of the readers will not be able to understand it. Existance of a language does not mean that it should be made official. The primary purpose of a language is to be able to convey your feelings. English serves this purpose more than any other language in India. We need not be ashamed of the fact.

By the way, why do we need an offical stamp to declare Hindi as the national language? It is the most spoken local language of India and hence is, virtually, the national language.

A good and neat effort to educate about the difference between official and national language. Hindi is the language of those who live in Hindustan. Amir Khusro, a medieval period Sufi saint was among the pioneers who gave a concrete shape to the alphabet in Hindi. Therefore, to bracket Hindi with Hindus will be a misnomer. Change in the demography for better livelihood will make the issue of the language in the plural country such as India irrelavent in the coming days.

How do you wish to be known? An identity established by one’s origin or through one’s deeds that transcend barriers of language, race and religion? The true identity of a nation is not in its national language, national animal or national flower. It is in the country’s ability to overcome odds and prosper over time. Language is a trivialism ’coz the land we tread was once water and India/Hindustan belonged to more than a hundred tribes. The argument over the national language or its absence will never cease. I believe the best way to end the argument is by not talking about it in the first place.

Like many other people, even I was under the impression that Hindi is the national language of India. I had often wondered how it could be, or whetehr Hindi actually lives up to its status as the national labguage. down south, very few people speak in Hindi. several of them don’t follow a word in Hindi. however, it’s true that Hindi is spoken by a majority of the Indian population.

actually this is not a problem why we are using English, problem is this why we are not using the our language, Britain, America, China, Russia, and other developed countries used their own languages and have the national language but we don’t have and also not using the national language. We become free only physically not mentally in 1947. We was depended on English, we are depending on English and we should be if we will not changed our mentality.
