Respected Gandhiji,

Hope you will be enjoying in heaven.

Whenever I think about the country, I feel very sad. There is lot of violence everywhere; communal riots, terrorism, murders, rapes, caste system, illiteracy, unemployment, poverty, child labour, and so many other problems. Then I feel, is this the free Bharat (India)? Is this Bharat (India) of Gandhi’s dream? If Gandhiji you were alive today, you would have also felt very sad.

After 60 years of freedom, we can’t solve our problems; perhaps the problems have increased beyond any solution. See Baapu…! There is democracy in Bharat (India) but whenever anybody or the government of India takes any step or pass any policy, rule or law, it’s never in the interest of Bharat (India). It only favors some particular religion i.e. Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christians, and others; where is democracy I don’t know.

Look Baapu…! Today Bharat (India) is the largest democratic country in the world, many politicians are there but we Indians are facing the shortage of actual leader in your Country…!

In the true sense, the politicians think that the parliament is the stage of politics, come play the game and enjoy, nobody is worried for the country, they all are worried about there self-interest and leading the country to hell. Public is watching all these activities enjoying and clapping. Where is the country going, nobody wants to think about it. After using their voting rights, everybody sleep like the father of a girl after her marriage, everybody talk about the golden past of the country, nobody talks about the dark future, yes this is the truth Mr. Gandhi and it’s happening in your country…!

Hey…Respected Gandhiji, feel today’s Bharat (India), nobody follows your thoughts, nobody cares about your dreams.

Everywhere there is violence in spite of your most powerful word “non violence”, Gandhi in your country…!

Politicians are not volunteers, and volunteers cannot become politicians, Gandhi in your country…!

10 per cent people are playing with the fate of 90 per cent people and 90 per cent watching the fate of 10 percent people, look Gandhi in your country…!

The old cast system (Brahmin, Vaishya, Kshatriya and Shudra) has been replaced by a new cast system (General, O.B.C., S.C., S.T.), Gandhi in your country…!

Talent is waiting for job and job is waiting for reserved, that’s why unemployment is increasing, Gandhi in your country…!

Every year witnesses many scams and the result of every scam is full of more scams, isn’t it interesting, Gandhi in your country…!

65% people of the country are farmers but the government maintains no budget for agriculture, hence G.D.P. of agriculture is only 2.5% out 10%, Gandhi in your country…!

Godowns are full of grains and meals but people are dying hungry, Gandhi in your country…!

Many of the world’s richest people are living in the country; however, 40% people are living under the poverty line, Gandhi in your country…!

One man is living in 12 houses and 12 men are living in a single house, Gandhi in your country…!

One man is drinking whiskey and one is waiting for a drop of water, strange, Gandhi in your country…!

You are the Father of the Nation, but the nation is feeling helpless (orphan) today without you Gandhi in your country…!

There are many politicians in the country but nobody is the HERO for the country, shame, Gandhi in your country…!

Oh yes! Your most favorite word “HEY RAM” is the most “COMMUNAL WORD” today and it is in your country…!

All is well in your country. Hope you will take rebirth in Bharat (India) soon.

I am waiting...

Yours truly,
BLG

If you have written the 'open letter' to Bapu then the elements of Bharat Mata would be disturbed because we consign our dead bodies to fire dispensing in to the elements. If he were buried, even without the 'open letter' he would have been twisting and turning in his grave seeing what is happening to his beloved country for which he lived and died for in the last 50 years.

I must say you have written a very good piece, but don't you think it is too late in the day to evoke the Gandhian conscience in Indians? If that was so, Nathuram Godse and Nana Apte wouldn't have been hanged even for killing the Mahatma. Mahatma wouldn't have wanted that.

Gandhi was perhaps the greatest son India ever had. There are countless opinions about the true factor behind India gaining independence and not going the South Africa way that has an interim black history of apartheid, inequality, barbarism and violence. In fact, Gandhi could move the country towards a common goal that no contemporary world leader - spiritual or political (Gandhi was both) could do.

To see what is happening today in India in the name of general public behaviour and political trapeze acts is a shame to his memory, his debt upon us. After all we owe him the free air that we breath today in free India.

"Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth." - Albert Einstein on the Mahatma.

"Generations to come will scarce believe that such a great nation was ruled and inhibited by politicians and citizens without conscience." - Future history text books written by anonymous historians.

Don't you think this letter happened too late in the day when we have totally sold our souls to the Devil? Munna Bhai's Gandhigiri might have been a huge hit in commercial cinema; some tried to take it to the streets with little success. Overall, we have now become people who can no longer beyond our own noses and our fast track lives have made us grossly intolerant to our fellow citizens.

Even politicians are now dividing the nation on caste lines more than ever before crushing Gandhi's dream of an equal society. The reservation policies that you have mentioned is actually dividing the country undoing the work of the great man than uplifting the downtrodden and the backward.

Gandhiji was inspired by Leo Tolstoy and was an anarchist. In fact, Gandhiji was influenced by many others like Romain Rolland and Ruskin.

Once Gandhiji said quoting Ruskin's work 'Unto this last':

"Whenever you are in doubt or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test: 'Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen and ask yourself if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him. Will he gain anything by it? Will it restore him to a control over his own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to Swaraj for the hungry and spiritually starving millions?’ then you will find your doubts and your self melting away."

Similarly Tolstoy's 'The Kingdom Of God Is Within You’ also influenced Gandhi and thus he spoke of the 'inner voice' or the 'conscience' or 'conviction'.

We witness anarchism even today, but it is so different from what he preached. We disobey laws just for the sake of breaking it and terrorise our own people. Gandhiji was a lawbreaker but not a gunda.

If he foresaw what India would become in the 21st Century, he might have well carried on practicing law in South Africa.

mr. b.l. gupta. no matter how great was gandhi, no matter what he achieved for india using no matter whatever methods plz understand that gandhi is now irrelevant in today's scenario. no country in the world can get independence from its occupiers thru gandhism. will tibet ever get freedom thru non-violent and peaceful protests? would kosovo or iraq?

reservation politics in india is just for creating vote banks. we all know that. there is nothing new. india has well and truly abandoned gandhi and his principles.

It seems the author is more interested to talk about India's caste based reservation than other things that is ailing India now. We see people lying on roads bleeding to death and no one has the time or the will to pick him up to get him to the hospital and save his life like the recent event that happened with a journalist in Delhi. People resort to violence and arson when protesting against government policies. This is certainly not the India that Gandhi dreamed of. This has become a nation of self-centered selfish people.

It’s definitely a novel way of rekindling Gandhism in the reader’s mind but an ineffective one at that for when blood baths don’t seem to be doing the trick an open letter really does seem like a long shot. Honestly the big words can wait it’s better to change yourself than change the world, in father’s own words, be the change that you want to see in the world. Don’t care if others are casteist, you stop doing it first and the world shall follow.
